SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 31, 2025) - The Texas Woman's softball team displayed resilience and determination, sweeping their doubleheader against St. Mary's at The Park. The Pioneers (17-17, 13-15) earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory in game one before edging out the Rattlers (20-19, 15-13) with a 1-0 win in game two, relying on clutch hitting and dominant pitching to secure the sweep.
In the opening game, the Pioneers struck first when Trinity Perry lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing Hawwa Townsend home for an unearned run in the top of the first inning. St. Mary's responded in the second as Mia Padilla drove in Izzy Valdez with an RBI triple, followed by an RBI single from Ally Sanchez to give the Rattlers a 2-1 lead.
Trailing in the sixth inning, the Pioneers mounted a rally. Ashley Allinger scored the tying run on a wild pitch, and Lauryn Davies reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, allowing Madison Reid to cross home for the go-ahead run. Pitcher Allison Gonzalez was stellar in the circle, throwing a complete game, allowing two earned runs, and striking out three to secure the 3-2 victory.
Game two was a pitchers' duel from the start, with neither team breaking through until the seventh inning. The game experienced a round of lightning delays, momentarily pausing the defensive battle. Once play resumed, Riley Todd delivered in the clutch, launching a solo home run to left field for the game's only run at the top of the seventh. Randi Crawford was dominant on the mound, tossing a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out five to cap off the sweep for TWU.
