TWU FALLS IN TOUGH DOUBLEHEADER BATTLE WITH NO. 3 PATRIOTS

DENTON, Texas (April 8, 2025) – The Texas Woman's University softball team welcomed No. 3 UT Tyler to Dianne Baker Field on Tuesday afternoon for their first matchup of the season, following a series of rescheduling. The Pioneers dropped both games to the Lone Star Conference opponent by scores of 12-0 and 4-1, respectively. TWU (17-19, 13-17) was outmatched in both contests against UT Tyler (36-3, 27-3), as the Patriots showcased a strong showing with dominant performances in each game.

In Game one, UT Tyler jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first three innings. The Patriots broke the game open in the fourth, capitalizing on a flurry of hits, RBIs and TWU miscues to tack on five more runs. A two run home run in the fifth sealed the 12-0 win.

Game two proved to be a more competitive effort all around from the Pioneers, who showed resilience throughout. UT Tyler got on the board in the third inning with a sacrifice fly, then added another sac fly in the fifth to go up 2-0. TWU responded in the bottom half of the fifth inning, as Lauryn Davies delivered an RBI single to bring Riley Todd home following her walk and stolen base. However, an RBI single and another run in the sixth helped the Patriots complete the sweep with a 4-1 victory.
