PIONEERS FALL SHORT IN ROAD SERIES AGAINST TAMUK

KINGSVILLE, Texas (April 18, 2025) – The Texas Woman's University softball team wrapped up their South Texas road trip on Friday but came up short in a pair of close games against Texas A&M–Kingsville. TWU (20-24, 16-22) battled in both contests, but the Javelinas (22-29, 17-23) defended home turf with two wins.

The Pioneers took early control in game one, jumping out to a 2-0 lead by the third inning on RBIs from Malarie Medina. TAMUK answered with a run in the bottom of the third, but TWU responded with two more in the fourth — courtesy of RBIs from Vivica Hernandez and Marissa Espinoza — to extend the lead to 4-1.

The Javelinas responded with a surge, scoring six runs across the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-4 lead. TWU attempted a comeback in the sixth after Cristyna Del Hierro's two-RBI single up the middle, cutting the deficit to 7-6. But TAMUK added an insurance run in the bottom half and held off TWU's rally for an 8-6 victory.

Game two served as a defensive showcase with a lower scoring outing. TAMUK struck first with a run in the opening inning, but TWU tied it in the fourth when Madison Reid grounded out to bring home Ashley Allinger. The Javelinas walked it off in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to secure a 2-1 win and the series sweep.
