PIONEERS BATTLE LATE BUT DROP DOUBLEHEADER TO CAMERON

DENTON, Texas (April 25, 2025) – The Texas Woman's University softball team came up just short of a split at Dianne Baker Field on Friday afternoon, dropping both games of the doubleheader to Cameron in their final series opener of the regular season. TWU (20-28, 16-26) faced Cameron (29-21, 22-20) for the third and fourth times this season, as the Aggies completed a 3-1 series win with back-to-back victories in Denton.

In game one, the Pioneers held a 2-1 lead through three innings before the Aggies exploded for eight runs in the fourth to take control. The game ended in the fifth via run rule, 10-2. Game two was a back-and-forth battle. Cameron struck early, but TWU responded with a solo home run by Malarie Medina in the second to cut the deficit. A two-RBI double from Hawwa Townsend tied the game at 3-3, scoring Vivica Hernandez and Marissa Espinoza. Madison Reid followed in the third with another two-RBI double to give TWU a 5-3 lead.

Espinoza delivered a big moment in the sixth, launching the first home run of her Pioneer career to extend the lead to 6-4, but the Aggies answered in the top of the seventh with a four-run rally to retake the lead and ultimately win 8-6.
