ALPINE, Texas (Sept. 20, 2025) - The Texas Woman's soccer team made history Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Sul Ross State, improving to 6-0 and marking the best start in program history.
The previous record was a 5-0 start set in 2023, which the Pioneers mimicked on Wednesday after the win over the Lady Buffs. TWU matched that mark earlier this week and officially surpassed it with Saturday's win.
TWU (6-0) struck early in the first half against Sul Ross (1-5) on the road. Bri Luna initiated the attack by pushing the ball forward to Giselle Gutierrez, who delivered a precise cross to Ailyn Oliveros. Oliveros finished the play with a goal to give the Pioneers the 1-0 victory.
The Pioneers are now 5-0 this season when scoring first and leading at halftime.

FROM HEAD COACH BABAK ABOUZAR
"I have to give credit to Sul Ross. They were well organized defensively and made things difficult for us at times. With that being said I feel we left a lot on the table in terms of goals. It wasn't for a lack of effort or intensity, we just needed to execute better in our attacking third. Credit to Ailyn and her ability to finish. Anytime you can get 3 points on the road in this conference you take it and move one.Â
Excited for this start that our team has created. We want to enjoy it while also knowing we have to continue to take things one game at a time. That's something that has really contributed to our team's success."
NEXT UP
The road stretch continues for TWU as they head to San Antonio on Wednesday, Sept. 24 for a 5 p.m. match.
