DENTON, Texas (July 8, 2026) – Excellence in the classroom and in competition stands as a pillar of Texas Woman's Gymnastics.
Reflecting this pillar is the celebration of two Pioneers being named to the
College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Women's At-Large First Team.
As voted on by the CSC members,
Caroline Bowns and
Kami Zarlengo were honored as CSC Academic All-Americans.
"I am incredibly proud of Caroline and Kami for earning this honor," said TWU Gymnastics Head Coach
Lisa Bowerman. "Each of them work incredibly hard in every aspect of their lives and truly lead the way for this team. It is only fitting that they be recognized for the effort they have poured into their academic success."
Within Division II, three Academic All-America teams with 45 total student-athletes were honored. The First Team celebrated 15 total student-athletes.
Bowns claims her first CSC Academic All-America honor, which she adds to a decorated junior season. Along with academic success, she claimed the WCGNIC Individual Bars National Title and was named a WCGA All-American, a WCGNIC First Team All-American on bars and WCGNIC Second Team All-American on beam. Additionally, Bowns helped guide the Pioneers to their second straight WCGNIC National Title. She is currently majoring in political science and celebrated a 4.0 GPA this year.
Earning her second career CSC Academic All-America honor, Zarlengo was named a Third Team Academic All-American in 2023-24. This season, Zarlengo closed out her senior season as a WCGNIC National Champion and a First Team All-MIC honoree on bars. Zarlengo will be graduating with a degree in education, and she boasted a 4.0 GPA this year.
Along with their athletic accolades, Bowns and Zarlengo were both honored as MIC and WCGNIC Scholar-Athletes and CSC Academic All-District Team members.
According to the CSC, "Academic All-American is a title reserved for college student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their chosen sport and in the classroom. The all-time list of 40,000+ Academic All-Americans includes major sports stars and some of the world's most accomplished individuals in medicine, business, science and the arts. Established in 1952 and selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), Academic All-America is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports at all NCAA levels, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions."
