HONOLULU, Hawaii. (Aug. 31, 2026) - The Texas Woman's soccer team wrapped up their season-opening trip to Honolulu in dominant fashion Sunday, earning a 4-1 victory over Hawaiʻi Pacific to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Pioneers (2-0)Â jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute when senior forward Giselle Gutierrez worked through the Sharks' (0-3) defense and found the back of the net.
TWU doubled their advantage in the 34th minute when Mardie Frye scored her first career goal with a header off a corner kick from Ailyn Oliveros. The Pioneers continued to apply pressure, and Bri Luna capitalized on a turnover in the HPU back line in the 40th minute to give TWU a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Hawaiʻi Pacific got on the board in the second half following a Pioneer miscue, but freshman midfielder Lauren Wade responded in the 76th minute, scoring on her own rebound for her first career goal and restoring TWU's three-goal advantage at 4-1.

23': Gutierrez put the Pioneers on the board first after TWU generated several early chances. The senior forward worked her way through the Sharks' defense and finished to give TWU a 1-0 lead.

76': After Hawaiʻi Pacific appeared to gain momentum with its second-half goal, Wade answered by connecting on her own rebound for her first career goal, pushing the Pioneers back in front by three at 4-1.

"Solid performance from our team today," Abouzar said. "It took us until after the first water break to get our first goal, however, once we got it, confidence started to build and two others happened right after. Anytime you can open the season with two road wins you're excited and doing it in Hawaii made it even more special. The experience our athletes had on this trip was second to none and I'm sure they've made some memories that they'll remember for years to come."

The Pioneers return to the mainland for their final nonconference road match Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. TWU will then return home for their next matchup on Saturday, Sept. 5.
