CANYON, Texas (Sept. 16, 2026) - The Texas Woman's soccer team continued their dominant start to the season with a 2-0 victory over West Texas A&M on the road Wednesday night. The Pioneers improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in Lone Star Conference play, matching the program's previous best start to open a season set in 2025.
TWU (7-0, 3-0) controlled the match from the start, outshooting West Texas A&M (1-4-2, 0-2-1) 17-2 and holding the Lady Buffs without a shot in the first half. Lauren Wade got the Pioneers going late in the first half with a goal off the Lady Buff turnover that cost them the momentum heading into the half. Senior forward Giselle Gutierrez extended the Pioneer lead in the 69th minute after finishing over a WT defender and diving goalie to give TWU a 2-0 advantage to seal the game.
The Pioneers put 11 shots on goal compared to two for WT and earned four corner kicks while allowing none. Goalkeeper Faith Graves made two saves to secure her fifth shutout of the season.

TWU continued to pressure the Buffaloes throughout the second half, putting 11 shots toward the WT goal and holding West Texas A&M to just two shots in the match. Graves and the Pioneers' defense held firm in the closing minutes to preserve the shutout.

I am really proud of how we pressed as a unit and won the ball high up the field. We also did a great job of limiting their opportunities on goal.
