PIONEERS MAKE PROGRAM HISTORY WITH 2-0 SENIOR DAY SHUTOUT

DENTON, Texas (Sept. 19, 2026) - The No. 16 Texas Woman's soccer team made program history on Senior Day Saturday, defeating Sul Ross State 2-0 at Pioneer Soccer Park to improve to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play. The Pioneers' 8-0 start is the best in program history, surpassing the previous best start of 7-0 set by the 2025 team.

TWU (8-0, 4-0) controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting Sul Ross State (0-5-2, 0-3-1) 30-4 for the most shots all season and putting 14 shots on goal compared to three for the Lobos. The Pioneers also earned seven corner kicks while allowing none.

Junior forward Jaida Arizmendi provided all the offense for TWU, scoring both goals to record her first multi-goal match of the season. She opened the scoring in the 26th minute after receiving assists from Giselle Gutierrez and Concepcion Maya, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage.

Arizmendi struck again in the 63rd minute, this time finishing a pass from Alyssa Striker to double the TWU lead and put the Pioneers firmly in control.

The Pioneers' defense continued its dominant start to the season, limiting Sul Ross State to just four shots and three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Faith Graves made three saves to record her sixth consecutive shutout and seventh of the season.

  • 26': Arizmendi opened the scoring after finishing a combination from Gutierrez and Maya to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead early on in the match.

  • 63': Arizmendi doubled the TWU advantage with her second goal of the game, finding the back of the net off an assist from Striker to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.

  • Graves and the Pioneer defense closed out the match to secure TWU's sixth consecutive shutout and seventh overall this season.
