WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Sept. 28, 2026) - The Texas Woman's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Sunday, falling 1-0 to No. 21 Midwestern State at Stang Park. The Pioneers entered the match with a program-record 9-0 start and dropped to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
TWU (9-1, 5-1) finished with a 12-7 advantage in shots and earned four corner kicks, but Midwestern State (9-0-1, 5-0-1) scored early and held the Pioneers scoreless through the final 83 minutes. The Mustangs recorded two shots on goal compared to one for TWU.
Midwestern State took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute as the early goal proved to be the game's only score. TWU created several opportunities to level the match, with Lauren Wade recording four shots, including one on goal, while Whitni Newbill added three shots.
The Pioneers continued their offensive push after halftime, recording seven shots and three corner kicks in the second half, but were unable to find the equalizer.

"Disappointed with the result as we had a mental lapse early on, however I'm proud with our response and performance afterwards", Abouzar said. "We played really well, hit the crossbar twice, that's what makes it sting but we'll be ok. As I tell the team, we can't get too high in our highs and can't get too low in our lows. We'll learn from this and move on to the next one."
