Box Score 2 DENTON, Texas (Mar. 19) – The TWU softball team dropped the first game of a doubleheader to visiting Angelo State 8-1 on Thursday night at Pioneer Field. The second game of the twin bill was halted due to rain after seven innings with the score tied at 5.
Weather permitting, the Pioneers and Rambelles will resume the postponed game at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 20, and then play Friday's scheduled doubleheader to wrap-up the four-game Lone Star Conference series.
In the series opener, the Pioneers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. After the first out, TWU had three straight singles and took the lead on RBI single by sophomore
Alyssa Galaz.
After the first inning, the Pioneers managed just three more base runners the rest of the game on an error and two walks. After going scoreless through the first three innings, the Rambelles scored three runs in the fourth including two unearned runs to take a 3-1 lead. ASU added two in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to capture a seven-run win.
In game two, the Rambelles scored a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead but TWU responded to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. The Pioneers loaded the bases to start the inning and scored the run on a one-out sacrifice fly by sophomore
Tori Bice.
TWU scored three unearned runs in the second to go on top 4-1. Galaz and senior
Kendra Sancet each picked up RBI singles. ASU got one back in the third to make it 3-2 and tied the game in the fifth on back-to-back walks with the bases loaded.
The Rambelles took a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning on a solo home run but Sancet tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with her eighth long ball of the season. Both teams went scoreless in the seventh before the rain halted the game.
Sancet finished the day 3-for-6 with two RBI while Galaz went 3-for-7 with two RBI. Junior
Laura Mabary was 3-for-8 with three runs scored.
NOTES: Friday's games have been dubbed a Free Ice Cream Friday as free ice cream sundaes will be given away to fans while supplies last.
