TWU Posts Season-High on Bars in Final Home Meet

DENTON, Texas (Mar. 12) – The TWU gymnastics posted a season-high on bars and finished with a 193.000 team score in the final home meet of the season against No. 3 LSU, No. 16 Oregon State and New Hampshire.

LSU captured the quad meet with a 197.825 highlighted by Ashleigh Gnat with a perfect 10.000 on floor.  Oregon State placed second with a 196.550 while UNH edged TWU for third with a 193.800.

The Pioneers' lone senior Madison Kremer, who was battling with injuries the entire season, performed on floor as an exhibition to a standing ovation.  She was the final gymnast to perform on the night as all eyes from the 829 fans, gymnasts and coaches were directed to the floor exercise.

TWU opened the meet on vault and scored a 48.525 with three gymnasts posting a 9.700 or higher.  Sophomore Schyler Jones led the team with a 9.800 while freshman Megan Gentry scored a 9.750 and junior Katie Simpson finished with a 9.700.

The Pioneers then moved to bars and posted a season-best 48.400.  Simpson was the team leader with a 9.800 while sophomore Alyssa Kelly, sophomore Taylor Vincent and freshman Jenna Cashmore all finished with a 9.700.

TWU stumbled on beam in the third rotation and scored a 47.850 after counting a fall.  Kelly was the team leader with a 9.800.

The Pioneers finished with a 48.225 on floor in the final rotation.  Jones once again led the team with a 9.800 while freshman Erin Alderman scored a 9.775.

"Overall it was not our best and not what we wanted but this team will learn from it," said TWU head coach Lisa Bowerman.  "For the most part we did a great job of picking up after the mistakes we had on beam.  Going into floor we needed a strong score to finish with a good overall score.  It's still not our best floor score but it will help us with our team RQS."

The Pioneers will return to action when the travel to Cape Girardeau, MO, to compete in the MIC Championships on Saturday, Mar. 19.  The meet will be hosted by Southeast Missouri State at Houck Field House at 4:00 p.m.
