Pioneers at No. 7 Lady Buffs preview

DENTON, Texas (Feb. 23, 2017) – Texas Woman's University softball heads to No. 7 West Texas A&M for their first road Lone Star Conference series beginning with a single game Friday at 7 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shaeffer Park.

About the Pioneers
TWU enters the series against WT with an overall record of 9-7 and a 1-2 mark in LSC play. Nicole Nordie is third within the league in stolen bases (8), fifth in hits (22), batting average (.458) and on-base percentage (.544), and seventh in RBI (13).
Abby Walker leads the league in batters struck out (57) and batters struck out looking (16), is third in wins (5) and seventh in opposing batting average (.181).
 
About the Lady Buffs
WT dropped from second to seventh in the national ranking following a pair of losses to No. 23 Dixie State during the Cactus Classic in Tucson, Arizona, to bring them to 14-2 overall. The Lady Buffs lead the LSC in batting average (.387), hits (164), runs (127) and home runs (27). A pair of WT players earned LSC preseason honors with Kilee Halbert being tabbed Preseason Pitcher of the Year and Ashley Hardin named Preseason Player of the Year.

The Lady Buffs hold a slim all-time series lead against the Pioneers, 24-22. WT has taken the last six meetings between the two teams, including a four-game series sweep last season in Denton when the Lady Buffs were ranked number one in the country.

DENTON, Texas (April 23, 2016) – Playing without their ace pitcher Tori Bice for the second straight day, the TWU softball team dropped the doubleheader to No. 1 West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon.
 
TWU honored seniors Tealey Farquhar and Laura Mabary and sophomore Sydney Hester between the doubleheader. The trio played their final games at Pioneer Field Saturday. Hester will forgo her final two years of eligibility to concentrate on her nursing degree.
 
The Pioneers gave the top seeded WTAMU all it could handle for the second straight day as they dropped the first game in eight innings, 11-5, and the second game, 8-7.

DENTON, Texas (Feb. 18, 2017) - Texas Woman's University rallied from a 5-1 fourth inning deficit to place the winning run on second base in the bottom of the seventh, but three Pioneers were left stranded in a 6-4 loss to Cameron Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Park.
 
Cameron (12-4, 2-1 LSC) put two runs on the board in the second via a home run. TWU (9-7, 1-2 LSC) answered in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI single from Alexis Elizondo.
