CHICAGO (Jan. 31, 2017) – Bria Northrop of Texas Woman's University has been selected as the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Gymnast of the Week, as announced Tuesday.

Northrop had another career-setting weekend at TWU's home opener Sunday against Iowa State. This season, the freshman from Shawnee, Kan., has continually improved each meet and upped all four of her event scores against ISU - vault by and bars by .075, beam by .175, floor by .100, and all-around by .425. Northrop tied for the title on floor, came in second in all-around, tied for third on vault and beam, and placed sixth on bars.

This is Northrop's first honor and the second of the season for the Pioneers as Schyler Jones earned the award Jan. 10.

Last outing for the Pioneers
Norman, Okla. (February 3, 2017) - Texas Woman's University traveled to No.1 Oklahoma for quad meet including No.8 Denver and No.20 Nebraska and finished fourth with a team score of 193.000.

The Pioneers started on floor exercise where they alternated competing with Oklahoma who was on vault. Erin Alderman tumbled her way to a 9.700 for the Pioneers to set the tone for anchor Bria Northrop who scored a 9.850. The team finished the first rotation with a 48.325 and was in second place behind the Sooners heading into rotation number two.

Lead off gymnast Mallory Moredock led the Pioneers on vault and had the team soaring with a 9.700. Freshman Hunter Vincent was third in the lineup and put up a 9.775 to set a new career-high. Northrop followed with a 9.800 and also recorded a career-best on the event. Schyler Jones anchored with a 9.825 to bring the team score to a 48.825.

Jenna Cashmore was a star on the third rotation at uneven bars where she anchored and registered a 9.775. The team hit six-for-six on the event but was unable to gain much ground with a team score of 48.275, but held on to third place over Nebraska.

Balance beam was the final rotation and a rocky one as the Pioneers struggled with a few falls. Duo Northrop and Jones both scored 9.800 on their routines in the middle of the lineup, and TWU finished the event with a 47.575 to fall into fourth place in the quad.

Northrop finished tying for fourth place on floor and fifth in the all-around competition. Top-ranked Oklahoma dominated the meet with 2016 Olympic Trial Competitor Maggie Nichols scoring a perfect 10 on balance beam. This was the first 10 the Pioneers have seen in competition during the 2017 season.
