Pioneers versus Lady Eagles and Lady Chaps preview

DENTON, Texas (Feb. 9, 2017) – Texas Woman's University enters its second tournament of the 2017 season at the North Texas Softball Bash hosted by the City of Grand Prairie Department of Parks, Arts and Recreation with a pair of games on Friday against Oklahoma Christian at 11 a.m. and Lubbock Christian at 1:30 p.m.

About the Pioneers
The Pioneers are riding a four-game win streak after returning from The Desert Stinger in Las Vegas last week. TWU dropped it opening contest to Augustana before defeating Sioux Falls, Sonoma State, Concordia (Ore.) and New Mexico Highlands. Tori Bice earned All-Tournament honors at the DH position after posting seven hits, a grand slam and five RBI throughout the five games while also earning a win in the circle.
 
About the Lady Eagles
OC, picked to finish third in the Heartland Conference, boast three All-Heartland Preseason Team members in catcher Niki Davidson, second baseman Sheridan Bond and outfielder Haley Squier. The Lady Eagles opened the season at 4-2 in the Southeastern Regional Invitational during opening week.
 
History amongst Texas Woman's and Oklahoma Christian
The Pioneers and Lady Eagles have faced off six times dating to the 2013 season with TWU holding a 4-2 advantage. The two squads split a pair of contests last year.
 
Last meeting between TWU and OC
DENTON, Texas (Apr. 5) – The TWU softball team split the non-conference doubleheader against visiting Oklahoma Christian Tuesday evening at Pioneer Field.  After dropping the first game 10-0, the Pioneers bounced back with a 4-1 win in the second.
 
In game one the Pioneers' offense struggled as they managed just two hits.  TWU had seven base runners in the game on two errors, two walks, two hits and a hit-by-pitch but could not manufacture any runs.  The two hits came off the bats of freshman Lindy Kennedy in the second and junior Nicole Nordie in the sixth.
 
In game two junior Hailey Dixon started in the circle and limited OCU to just one run.  She struck out four batters for her eighth win of the season.
 
About the Lady Chaps
Also a member of the Heartland, LCU was chosen to finish second in the league and totaled three All-Heartland Preseason Team members in shortstop Lindzi Clemmer, outfielder Sydney Beuthien and DP Katera Eltsosie. The Lady Chaps went undefeated while hosting the Lady Chap Invite last week and added another win against Colorado Christian to sit at 6-0 overall.
 
History amongst Texas Woman's and Lubbock Christian
The Pioneers lost the first meeting to the Lady Chaps in 2013 but bested LCU twice last season, including a 12-4 win in the South Central Regional, to take a slight 2-1 all-times series lead.
 
Last meeting between TWU and LCU
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (May 5, 2016) – The TWU softball team used a seven-run fourth inning to defeat Lubbock Christian, 12-4, in five innings on the first day of the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.  The win snapped a six-game losing streak in the NCAA Tournament for the Pioneers.
 
Every player except junior Morgan Harrison in the line-up scored a run for TWU while Harrison is one of three players with two hits.  Junior Nicole Nordie and freshman Lindy Kennedy also had two hits each.  Junior Tori Bice was 1-for-2 at the plate with three RBI and pitched 1.1 innings in relief for the save.
 
Last outing for the Pioneers
LAS VEGAS (Feb. 5, 2017) - The Pioneers of Texas Woman's University wrapped up The Desert Stingers with a pair of wins in an eight-inning battle over Concordia (Ore.), 6-5, and a 3-2 victory over in-region foe New Mexico Highlands Sunday at Majestic Park to conclude the tournament with a 4-1 overall mark.
