Pioneers at MIC Championships preview

DENTON, Texas (March 16, 2017) – Texas Woman's University gymnastics is set to compete in the Midwest Independent Conference Championships this weekend hosted by the University of Illinois at Chicago Saturday at 2 p.m. in the UIC Pavilion.

About TWU
The Pioneers have posted the highest overall score within the MIC this season with a 196.000 and sit second with an RQS of 194.170 closely behind Lindenwood's 194.305.
TWU enters the championships with the top team RQS in vault (48.680) and floor (48.805) and is second in bars (48.550) and beam (48.540).
 
About the Pioneers
All-Around: Schyler Jones is ranked third in the conference with an RQS of 38.955, trailing Mikailla Northern of UIC by 0.15. Bria Northrop sits fifth with an RQS of 38.790 and has posted the second-highest score of 39.300.
 
Vault: Jones is tied for first with UIC's Northern as each gymnast has an RQS of 9.825. Katie Simpson is ranked fifth with a 9.795.
 
Bars: Jenna Cashmore leads TWU with an RQS of 9.780 in the fifth spot.
 
Beam: Mallory Moredock is positioned second in the MIC with an RQS of 9.785 with Jones following closely with a 9.760 and her 9.900 tying for the top mark.
 
Floor: Erin Alderman sits in second with an RQS of 9.835 while Jones is tied for fourth with a 9.830 and boasts the top score of 9.900.
 
Pioneer history at the MIC Championships
TWU has twice taken home the MIC crown with the most recent championship coming in 2010 with a score of 193.275 and the first title being awarded in 2006 where the team recorded a 193.200.
The highest Pioneer team score at the MIC Championships was registered in 2003 as a 195.975 where TWU placed second.

Last year at MIC Championships
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Mar. 19, 2016) – The TWU gymnastics team posted a 193.325 and finished third at the 2016 Midwest Independent Conference Championships Saturday evening at Houck Field House in Cape Girardeau, MO.
 
Sophomore Schyler Jones led the Pioneers with two individual titles in all-around and on vault while sophomore Alyssa Kelly placed second on bars.
 
Lindenwood captured the team title for the second straight season with a 194.925 while the host Southeast Missouri State finished second with a 194.375. Illinois State came in fourth with a 192.825 followed by Illinois-Chicago with a 191.325 and Centenary with a 188.825.
 
Last outing for the Pioneers
ST. CHARLES, Mo. (March 5, 2017) – The Pioneers of Texas Woman's University took their second win of the weekend with a 194.350-192.600 victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater while falling short to MIC opponent Lindenwood's overall score of 195.275 Sunday afternoon inside Robert F. Hyland Arena. Since being defeated by LU Feb. 5, TWU has raised their team score 1.450 points and also increased their Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) to a 194.350, .330 higher than Lindenwood.
