Preview: Pioneers vs. No. 14 Tarleton and No. 5 Angelo State

DENTON, Texas (Sept. 14, 2017) - Texas Woman's University volleyball hosts its first weekend of play and opening round of Lone Star Conference matches against No. 14 Tarleton State Friday at 7 p.m. and No. 5 Angelo State Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Kitty Magee Arena.
 
About the Pioneers
The Pioneers picked up their first pair of wins at the Chap Classic last weekend hosted by Lubbock Christian with victories over LCU and Colorado Christian.
Sophomore setter Katy Ranes sits third in the LSC with 10.07 assists per set, while senior middle blocker Haley Collins ranks third in blocks per set with an average of 1.15,  and sophomore libero Bailey French ranks sixth in digs per set at 4.30. Collins has tallied the highest block total within the league in a five-set match with 11 against Colorado Mesa on Sept. 9.

About the TexAnns
TSU's opening schedule has been a formidable one as the TexAnns have faced five teams ranked in the top-25 in their first eight matches. Tarleton State began the season at 5-0 before dropping the past three matches. The TexAnns are led by Hailey Roberts who is tops in the conference in kills per set (4.32). Jordyn Keamo ranks fourth in assists per set (9.43) and fifth in aces per set(.43), while Hanna McMannus is sixth in blocks per set (1.00).
 
History between TWU and TSU
The TexAnns hold a 33-21 advantage over the Pioneers dating to the 1978 season, but Tarleton has taken the previous four matches.
