DENTON, Texas (Nov. 27, 2018) — On Tuesday,
Kate Ranes was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Honorable Mention.
"It means a lot to me to be honored with this award," Ranes said after learning about her selection.
"Being an All-American honoree is an accomplishment that has always been at the top of my list," she added. "However, it's an award that cannot be won without the help of my teammates and coaching staff."
The junior becomes just the fourth Pioneer in the program's history to be named an All-American, the first since Hillary Shaffer in 2015.
"I'm so proud of Katy this season," head coach
Jeff Huebner said. "She played the season with so many new attackers contributing for us."
Ranes helped lead the Pioneers to their best season in three years, posting a Lone Star Conference-leading 1329 assists while averaging 10.8 per set.
"To win an All-American award from that place tells you about how incredible she was at solving the game and leading her teammates," Huebner added. "As a two-year captain, Katy continues to add excellence to our program every day through her work ethic and character."
The top statistical setter in the Lone Star Conference in each of the last two seasons, Ranes, along with teammate
Bailey French, were named to the AVCA All-South Central Region Team last week.
"As the only setter from our conference to win the award," Huebner said. "I think it speaks volumes about how her work is being recognized nationally."
"I'm thankful for this opportunity," Ranes said. "I look forward to what TWU Volleyball has in store for the future."
