PIONEERS FALL ON FINAL DAY OF SEAWOLF INVITATIONAL

ANCHORAGE, Ala. (Aug. 29, 2026) – The Texas Woman's Volleyball team closed out their trip to Alaska on Saturday afternoon against Chico State in their final match of the Seawolf Invitational.

After trailing by one set, TWU (0-4) pushed Chico State (1-2) to 30 points in Set 2, but the Pioneers fell by two points in Set 2. Then, the Pioneers battled back in set three, but fell by three points, 25-22.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Gracie Erichsen paced the Pioneers offense with a team high 15 kills, while contributing four digs and 15.0 total points.
  • Mary Grace King delivered a strong all-around performance with 14 kills on a team-leading .270 hitting percentage, paired with 9 digs and 14.0 total points.
  • Lorena Gómez directed the attack with 29 assists and finished with 12 digs to record a double-double – her fourth straight double-double.
  • Alyssa Rojo led the back-line defense, recording a team high 20 digs. 
  • Kaysie Nabors topped the TWU leader board in blocks with a career high four total blocks.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Set 2 Mid-Set Surge: After falling behind early, TWU went on a 7–1 run to take an 11–7 lead, highlighted by strong attacking from Erichsen and defensive net presence from Nabors.
  • Set 2 Extra-Points Marathon: The Pioneers fought off multiple set points and pushed the second set into extra points, taking a 28–27 lead off a Chico State error, before the Wildcats answered with three consecutive points to claim the set 30–28.
  • Set 3 Opening Breakaway: TWU built its largest lead of the match in Set 3 with a 6–0 run—spearheaded by consecutive kills from King – to open up a commanding 13–7 advantage.
  • Late Set 3 Push Back: After Chico State erased the deficit with a 7-point run, TWU rallied late with back-to-back kills from King and Teagan Hill to cut the margin down to 22–21 before Chico State managed to close out the match, 25-22.
