DENTON, Texas (Dec. 11, 2019) – Texas Woman's head coach Lisa Bowerman today announced the signing of two home state gymnasts, Steelie King and Alexia Leake, for the 2020-21 academic year.

"I am thrilled to officially welcome Steelie and Alexia to our Pioneer gymnastics family," Bowerman said. "There is so much talent in the state of Texas and we are excited to have both of them stay in the Lone Star State."

King, a two-time Level 10 State and Regional qualifier and a 2019 National qualifier, joins TWU from Longview, Texas where she competes for Texas East Gymnastics.  She has notched a career high 9.75 on vault and a personal-best 37.20 in all-around.

"Steelie's abilities and competitiveness will have an instant impact on our team," Bowerman stated.  "She brings a high level of skills and beautiful lines with her, and I am excited to see her thrive in the collegiate environment."

King, who will graduate from Cumberland Academy High School in May 2020, will pursue a major in biology.

"I chose TWU because the campus feels like home and every time I talk about TWU I can't help but smile," King said.

Leake, a three-time Level 10 State and Regional qualifier, joins TWU from Richardson, Texas where she competes for Iron Cross Gymnastics. She has registered a career-high 9.50 on floor exercise on two occasions, and in her last competition of the 2019 season, she earned a career-high 9.65 on vault. She is also a strong and dynamic gymnast on the uneven bars and balance beam.

"Alexia is an incredibly talented athlete with the potential to immediately impact all four lineups," Bowerman added. "She is certain to have an incredibly successful career as a Pioneer student-athlete."

Leake is set to graduate from Texas Connections Academy Houston in May 2020 and wants to pursue a degree in business.

"I chose TWU because of the all-around great atmosphere," Leake said. "I am looking forward to being able to compete alongside an amazing team while gaining some lifelong friends."
