DENTON (Feb. 24, 2019) — "I was just competing for my team,"
Erin Alderman said following Sunday afternoon's meet against Auburn at Kitty Magee Arena. "And enjoying performing for one of the last times in front of the home crowd."
The senior tied a career-high in Floor and Beam, posting 9.875 on both events, topping all competitors as she helped lead the Pioneers to a 194.300 overall score, tying the team's highest for the season, against the Tigers who posted a 195.500.
"One of our goals today was a new season-high," head coach
Lisa Bowerman said. "We were just short of that. But tying the season-high was still an incredible accomplishment and I'm just real proud of the performance that they had today."
Hope Parkin anchored the Pioneers on Vault with a score of 9.800 while
Bria Northrop led the way on Bars with a 9.775.
Like Alderman,
Isabel Goyco impressed on Floor with a 9.800 for her highest score of the meet as
Paige Stuyniski logged a 9.725 on Bars for the team's second-highest score on the event.
With gymnasts and coaches from both teams dawning pink for the Breast Cancer Awareness meet, the afternoon's proceedings were of greater significance.
"Everyone has been affected in some way, shape, or form by breast cancer through someone that they know or a family member." Bowerman said "We really made a point of keeping that in our hearts today we competed."
"It reminded us that we were part of something so much bigger," Alderman added. "What an incredible opportunity we had to just honor those people who fought the battle."
Next Sunday, the Pioneers will return home for the final home meet of the season when they host Centenary, Air Force and Arizona in the TWU Quad at 2 p.m.
