DENTON, Texas - The Texas Woman's University softball team will open Lone Star Conference play today at the John Cain Family Softball Complex in Commerce, Texas, today as the Pioneers (5-9) square off against No. 21 Texas A&M-Commerce (9-4) in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.

COACH BARKER SAYS

• "We put ourselves in position to face the best of the best at the beginning of the season because we know the LSC is stacked across the board. We're ready to open up conference and ready to fight from the first pitch to the last." 

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

• The Pioneers have done some of their best work this season against teams ranked in the NFCA Top 25, picking up wins over No. 1 Augustana, No. 7 Central Oklahoma, and No. 23 Arkansas Tech. 
• Sophomore Paige Tamayo had a huge week, blasting three home runs against Rogers State and Ottawa. She is hitting .444 with four homers and 19 RBIs at this early stage of the season. 
• Sydney Johnson has been quite adept at drawing the free pass this year. The sophomore has drawn a team-high eight walks thus far.
