PIONEERS DROP MATCH TO WEST TEXAS A&M

CANYON, Texas (Nov. 12, 2021) – Addison Mulroney lead the way for Texas Woman's University with 13 kills as the Pioneers recorded 13 more attacks than West Texas A&M University in their match Friday night.

Despite winning the attack battle, the Pioneers were unable to overcome the Lady Buffs Friday night, as West Texas A&M (19-4, 13-3 Lone Star Conference) beat TWU (10-17, 5-11) in three straight sets.

The Pioneers started set one off strong, trading points with the Lady Buffs for most of the first set. Then, TWU battled off three West Texas A&M set point opportunities, before falling in the first 20-25.

Following the first set, the Pioneers would drop the next two sets, 15-25 in the second and 18-25 in the third.

Monica Wood and Elizabeth Ugbaja both hit seven kills in the match. Bailey Wozniak, the Pioneers primary setter, finished with 25 assists and eight digs.

For the 14th time this season, Yanely Pabon recorded double digit digs. With 14 tonight, Pabon extended her streak of double digit digs to 10.

The Pioneers will travel to Eastern New Mexico University on Saturday, Nov. 13 for their final regular season match.

"Our team had some great stand out performances from Addison Mulroney, Monica Wood and Bailey Wozniak tonight, but it just wasn't quite enough to overcome West Texas tonight," TWU head coach Jeff Huebner said. "We have a great opportunity to compete again tomorrow, and are looking forward to playing Eastern New Mexico."
