SLOW START PLAGUES PIONEERS IN LOSS TO ANGELO STATE

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Jan. 15, 2022) – Three Texas Woman's University basketball players scored in double-digits, Sadie Moyer, Ashley Ingram and Agang Tac, but TWU dropped their first Lone Star Conference game of the season to Angelo State University, 66-83.

Moyer scored 15 points and grabbed three steals in the game. Ingram continued her double-digit prowess, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds. Tac rounded out the top three TWU scorers with 12 points; she also added six rebounds in the game.

Nevertheless, slow start Saturday seemed to plaque TWU (10-4, 3-1 LSC) in their 2 p.m. tip-off against Angelo State (5-9, 2-1).

The Rambelles jumped out into a quick 6-0 run to start the game, and their hot-hand shooting headlined the story of the first half.

Heading into halftime, Brielle Woods lead TWU with seven points, as the Pioneers trailed 27-46.

The halftime hiatus proved to be a difference maker on the offensive end of the floor for TWU, as they reignited their scoring. The Pioneers opened the third quarter on a 9-2 run. While their offense was refueling the fire, they also stepped up their defensive pressure to limit ASU's scoring.

With 4:07 left on the clock, Ingram got the roll and the foul off a steal by Moyer. With the completion of the three-point play, the Pioneers cut the Rambelles lead to nine points.

TWU also forced ASU into foul trouble, and the Pioneers tried to take advantage of being in the bonus for the final five minutes of the third quarter. The Pioneers kept it close throughout the third quarter. With a made lay-up by Tac, TWU headed into the fourth quarter only trailing by 10.

Ma'K'La Woods started off the final quarter on the right note with a two to cut the TWU deficit to eight points. Then, the Rambelles went on a 12-2 run to extend the lead back to 18 points.

To answer ASU's run, Moyer, who struggled to score throughout the first three quarters, caught fire and went three-for-three from the field to score seven points in a one-minute span. Then, Moyer only missed one shot in the final four minutes of action, scoring the Pioneers final 13 points of the game.

Brielle Woods and Ma'K'La Woods both added seven points in the loss.

TWU returns home to play Midwestern State University, in a nonconference game, on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m.
