TWU VOLLEYBALL PREPARES FOR A TWO MATCH WEEKEND

DENTON, Texas (October 26, 2022) - On the road this weekend in Lone Star Conference action, Texas Woman's (13-11, 4-8) volleyball is set for two matches. 
 
To start off the weekend, the Pioneers will head to Laredo, TX to take on the Texas A&M International (19-5, 10-1) Dustdevils on Friday, Oct. 28. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. 
 
Following Friday night's match, the Pioneers travel two hours away to Texas A&M - Kingsville (16-8, 8-3), where they will face the Javelinas Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. 
 
Last Saturday, in Kitty Magee Arena, the Pioneers dominated Western New Mexico (2-22, 0-12) in a sweep over the Mustangs. They have now increased their conference record to 4-8, and their overall record to 13-11. 
 
In their last meeting, the Pioneers swept the Dustdevils in the LSC Crossover tournament on Sep. 8 in KMA. The Pioneers lead the all-time series 6-2, since its inception on Sep. 13, 2008. 
 
This will be the Pioneers second meeting in Laredo, TX, where the Dustdevils are undefeated 5-0. Within the LSC, the Dustdevils have a 10-1 record and are currently on a winning streak, recording wins against St. Mary's, UT Permian Basin, and Angelo State.
 
On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Pioneers are set for a match against the Texas A&M - Kingsville Javelinas. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
 
The Pioneers lead the all-time series 37-13, since the series began on Sep. 26, 1987. In their last matchup, the Pioneers were swept by the Javelinas in Kingsville, TX. 
 
The Javelinas have dominated at home with a 6-0 record and are 8-3 in the conference this season.
 
For the Pioneers to be successful against both teams, they will need to maximize their opportunities at the net by limiting hitting errors and scoring during critical points.

EVERY MATCH, EVERY POINT
  • The Pioneers are seventh in the conference in blocks, averaging 2.13 per set. The Javelinas average 1.74 blocks per set, while the Dustdevils trail with an average of 1.73 blocks per set.
  • Serving aggressively has kept the Pioneers on top in some of their most challenging matches. The Pioneers are ranked seven amongst the conference for service aces registering 1.54 service aces per set. Tori Woods comes in at number four in the LSC, averaging .41 aces per set and Lizzy Reed clocks in at number 16 in the LSC averaging .32 aces per set.
