MOYER SCORES CAREER HIGH, AS PIONEERS WIN 10TH LSC GAME

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Feb. 19, 2022) – In a bounce-back win, the Texas Woman's University basketball team handed Texas A&M University – Kingsville their first home loss of the season, winning by five points, 75-70.

Sadie Moyer recorded a career performance for the Pioneers, scoring a career high 30 points. Moyer made five 3-pointers and shot 43.75% from the field to lead TWU.

"Sadie was very efficient from the floor today," TWU head coach Beth Jillson said. "She did a great job of shot selection today and responded in a huge way throughout the game."

TWU (17-7, 10-3) won their 10th game of Lone Star Conference action against TAMUK (17-8, 10-4).

In the win, seven different Pioneers scored. Ashley Ingram was TWU's second highest scorer. Ingram, coming off the bench, dropped 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds and two blocks.

"We faced adversity throughout the stretch of the game, and every time we found ways to respond," Jillson said. "Every player stepped up when their number was called. I thought this was our best game of sharing the ball and giving every player good looks. We were defensively locked in the entire game and that lead to us getting the win."

The Pioneers came out blazing in the first quarter. They opened the game on 5-0 run, with Scout Huffman scoring TWU's first three points of the game.

TAMUK struggled to score in the first quarter and the Pioneers lockdown defense led them to a 23-15 first quarter lead.

The fire died out for TWU in the second quarter, and they hit a scoring drought; nevertheless, they managed to respond down the stretch. With 42 seconds left on the clock in the second quarter, Ariyanna Hines hit a jumper to tie the score at 33 a-piece to take the Pioneers into halftime.

The third quarter was back-and-forth for the entire 10 minutes of action. In the quarter, TWU and TAMUK were tied five times. The Pioneers finally broke the fifth tie with 17 seconds left on the clock, when Moyer threaded a pass to Ma'K'La Woods and Woods hit the lay-up to give TWU a 52-50 advantage heading into the final quarter.

In the final quarter of action, the Pioneers never trailed from the nine-minute mark. TAMUK cut the lead to two multiple times but could never overcome the Pioneers lead.

Up by four with 10 seconds left, Hines drew a TAMUK offensive foul to seal the game.

Brielle Woods led the Pioneers with four assists and Kayla Glover contributed to the win by grabbing seven rebounds (tying her career high).

The Pioneers return home next week to play Oklahoma Christian University on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m.
