FOURTH WIN IN A ROW FOR TWU, AS PIONEERS BEAT ENMU ON THE ROAD

PORTALES, New Mexico (Feb. 3, 2022) – Brielle Woods scored a season high 18 points on the road in Texas Woman's University basketball's 63-57 win over Eastern New Mexico University Thursday night.

TWU (14-5, 7-1 Lone Star Conference) traveled to Portales, New Mexico and left with their fourth straight win in LSC action, after defeating ENMU (8-8, 4-6) by six points.

Woods started the game off with a hot hand for the Pioneers. In the first half, she scored 12 points and was playing both of sides of the ball with extreme tenacity.

"Bri opened the game and set the tone high for us from the start," TWU head coach Beth Jillson said. "She really provided a much-needed spark for us in the first half and helped us open with a double digit lead early on."

The largest double-digit lead came for the Pioneers in the second quarter, after Woods drained a 3-pointer to put TWU up by 12 points. Then, the Greyhounds scored, which sent TWU into the halftime break up by 10.

ENMU, who shot 28.57% from the field in the second quarter, opened the scoring gates in the third quarter and shot 61.54% from the field. TWU switched with the Greyhounds and went on a dry spell from the field, scoring a game low of 10 points in the third quarter.

Up by four to start the fourth, the Greyhounds quickly tied the game at 44 with 7:30 on the clock.

Feeling no pressure, the Pioneers responded in a big way. Ariyanna Hines dribbled the ball down the court, passed it to Sadie Moyer in the corner, and Moyer hit her only three of the night to put the Pioneers back on top.

"After they tied it up at 44, it seemed like the lid was just stuck on the basket for us on the offensive end," Jillson said. "Then, Sadie hit a three, which really gave us the big energy we needed."

Nevertheless, the Greyhounds would not go away—they responded and took a one-point lead with 4:48 left in the game.

As they seemed to do all night, TWU stepped up when needed. This time it was Keslyn King with the big-time play.

King scored on back-to-back plays to put the Pioneers up by three with three minutes remaining. On the second basket, King drove hard to the basket, took the contact, and connected on the bucket.

"I'm sure fans saw our bench reaction was huge when Keslyn hit the and-one play," Jillson said. "Keslyn came up big for us all night—on the boards and in the paint on offense. She did the little things to help us get a much-needed road win."

King missed the and-one free throw, but Moyer stole the rebound from the Greyhounds and Woods finished with the lay-up to give TWU a five-point advantage.

Although ENMU responded with a few shots, TWU played just out of reach of the Greyhounds throughout the remainder of the fourth quarter. In the final nine seconds of action, Kayla Glover sealed the win with two made free throws.

"Kayla had four points for us this game, but more impactful was her defense and five assists," Jillson said. "We were +16 with Kayla on the floor, so she made a huge difference in tonight's game."

The five assists for Glover marked a season high for the freshman point guard.

Ashley Ingram scored in double-digits for her 11th game in a row. She finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. Moyer added 12 points and four assists. King finished with a season nine rebounds and scored 10 points.

TWU will travel to Lubbock Christian University on Saturday, Feb. 5 to play their third conference game of the week. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
