Box Score LUBBOCK, Texas (Feb. 5, 2022) – Ashley Ingram and
Keslyn King both scored in double digits, but Texas Woman's University lost to Lubbock Christian University 70-62 on Saturday afternoon.
TWU (14-6, 7-2 Lone Star Conference) dropped just their second game of LSC action to No. 13 LCU (20-4, 9-3).
Ingram scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds—the 23 points marked her 11th game with 10 or more points. King finished with a season high 15 points for the Pioneers.
The energy fluctuated between teams on Saturday in Lubbock, with the lead changing seven times during the 40 minutes of action.
In the first half, the Pioneers shot 50% from the field and found themselves down by 10 heading into the halftime break. Despite being down by 10, TWU shot their best percentage from the 3-point line in the second quarter—shooting 60% and hitting three triples.
Unfortunately, the high percentage would not hold for the remainder of the game for the Pioneers, which proved to be the big difference maker in the final result. LCU shot 50% from behind the arc compared to TWU's 28.6% on the game.
TWU's best chance to take the lead in the fourth quarter came with 5:23 on the clock. King jumped in the Lady Chaps passing lane and scored a lay-up to bring the Pioneers within two. After the shot by King, the Pioneers went on a little drought before
Sadie Moyer connected on her lone triple of the game to cut LCU's lead to just four with 10 seconds left on the clock.
Time would be the Pioneers enemy, after Moyer's shot. Two free throws and a lay-up by the Lady Chaps would seal the 70-62 win for them.
Brielle Woods added eight points in the game. Moyer finished with five points and six rebounds.
Scout Huffman and
Ariyanna Hines both scored four points, and
Kayla Glover rounded out the Pioneers scoring with three points.
The Pioneers will continue LSC action on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m. against Midwestern State University.
