Box Score CONROE, Texas (Feb. 5, 2022) – In Texas Woman's University softball's opening game of the 2022 season,
Rylee Lara recorded two RBIs in the Pioneers loss to the University of Central Oklahoma, 12-4.
TWU (0-1) really exploded in the top of the fifth inning, with all four of their runs happening in the fourth.
To kick off the scoring in the fifth inning, TWU had the bases loaded with
Briana Yale up to bat. Yale gets hit by a pitch to advance to first base , allowing
Missy Wise to score. Then, there was a wild pitch by UCO's pitcher, the Pioneers used their speed to advance the bases, and
Cecily Rodriguez scored.
Lara, a graduate transfer from the University of Louisiana Monroe, hit a single to the right side in the top of the fifth inning to score
Kate Franz and
Alexys Ginegaw.
No. 20 UCO (1-0) scored three runs in both the first and second innings. TWU held them scoreless in the third and only gave up one run in the fourth inning. After the Pioneers opened their offensive in the fifth, the Bronchos responded and scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Julianne Malis (0-1), a JUCO transfer, got her first career start at TWU on the mound. Malis pitched four innings and recorded two strikeouts.
Four Pioneers recorded hits in the loss:
Nya Brown, Lara, Ginegaw, and Wise. Yale also finished with one RBI.
The Pioneers are back in action Sunday, Feb. 6 at the Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational in Conroe, Texas. They are scheduled to play Arkansas Tech University at 2 p.m. and Southern Nazarene University at 4 p.m.
