COLUMBUS, Ohio (March 25, 2022) – The Texas Woman's University artistic swimming team continues to shine and set the record bar high in their first year of competition.

On March 25, the Pioneers competed in the preliminary rounds for duet, solo and trio performances at their first Collegiate Nationals, hosted by Ohio State University. Not only did they compete in everyone, but they also qualified in each event—placing in the top 10 of every category.

TWU started the day off with the duet competition. The Pioneers duo of Maribella Falconer and Ashley Latchford drew the first spot, so they were the first swimmers in the pool for the day.

To qualify for the finals, the pair had to place in the top twelve out of 17 duets. Scoring a 75.5333, Falconer and Latchford recorded their second highest score of the season and placed seventh to advance to the finals on Sunday, March 27 at 8:40 a.m.

Next, Latchford showcased her solo routine. With the No. 17 draw in an 18-swimmer field, Latchford was able to see the scores she needed to beat. To move onto the finals, Latchford needed to place in the top 12. She shattered that bar by placing in the top five at No. 4 with a 76.5667.

Latchford will swim in the solo final on Sunday, March 27 at 10:30 a.m.

In the final preliminary competition of the day, the trio, the Pioneers had two teams perform.

The trio of Anaya Kashikar, Laura Klein and Regina Ramirez swam sixth out of 21 trio teams. They scored a season high 76.9333 and placed fifth to qualify in the top 12.

Only about a point off, the Pioneers second trio, which included Makayla Crichton, Falconer and  Haiden Long, performed fourth in the preliminaries and placed sixth with a season high 75.6333 to qualify for the finals.

Both TWU trios will compete in the finals on Sunday, March 27 at 7:20 a.m.

The Pioneers will continue competition tomorrow. They will compete in the A and B technical events, which begin at 11:15 a.m.  and the team preliminary competition, which starts at 2:45 p.m.
