TYLER, Texas (May 4, 2022) – Following the conclusion of the Lone Star Conference softball regular season, the LSC announced the recipients of the 2022 conference awards.

The University of Texas at Tyler won the regular season and will host the 2022 LSC Championships, which begin Thursday, May 5. Ahead of the conference tournament, the LSC honored the conference award recipients in Tyler, Texas.

After having a standout freshman season, Texas Woman's University softball player Nya Brown was named to the 2022 LSC All-Freshman team.

Brown, from Garland, Texas, played centerfield for the Pioneers in her freshman season. She started 44 of TWU's 45 games. Brown recorded a career high three hits against the University of Texas Permian Basin. She hit her first career triple against the University of Texas A&M - Kingsville.

In her first year at TWU, Brown finished with 16 RBIs, 36 hits and 20 runs. On the defensive side of the ball, she recorded 54 putouts.

While Brown's accolades speak for themselves, she most impressed the LSC with her speed, shown in base running and catches from the center field position. In base running, Brown stole 27 bases in 29 attempts, including multiple times stealing home plate for a run.

The 27 bases stolen by Brown ranked sixth in the LSC and first on the TWU roster.

The All-Freshman team included 10 athletes, which were voted upon by the league's coaches. The team was headlined by Freshman of the Year Kaiden Boren from Cameron University.
