JACKSON, Tenn. (August 26, 2022) – Spending their season opener on the road, the Texas Woman's volleyball team will be kicking off their 2022 campaign on August 26-27  at the Union Volleyball Classic in Jackson, Tennessee. 

First serve for the Pioneers begins at 1 p.m. versus Belmont Abbey College. Followed by a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Mississippi College. The Pioneers will resume play Saturday at 1 p.m. to take on Union College and close out the weekend versus University of Arkansas at Monticello. 

Of the four teams the Pioneers will be facing, Mississippi College holds no matches to the Pioneers. Their last meeting was in 1992 when Mississippi College fell 3 – 0.

In a most recent matchup on October 28, 2017, the Pioneers rivaled over University of Arkansas at Monticello in a 3 – 1 victory. 

Last season the Pioneers finished 10 – 18 overall. Head Volleyball Coach Jeff Huebner now in his sixth season with the Pioneers understands the depth chart within the Lone Star Conference this season. 

"Our team played a rigorous scrimmage schedule," Huebner said, "and just like Coach Andrade always says, we are committed to "embracing productive discomfort"."

 Just this past week the Pioneers premiered in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll as #12 alongside three outstanding players to watch.

Accomplished Squad

• This year the Pioneers added five new freshmen to the team while welcoming back 11 dynamic players. FFifth-yearsenior Monica Wood and Trixie Oche are returning as experienced vets amongst a young and talented squad. Oche was selected as the preseason defensive player to watch, leading her team in points, kills and blocks. The Pioneer newcomers bring not only their passion for the game but a few honors such as First Team All-Conference team and All-State team.
