DENTON, Texas (Sept. 13, 2022)—The Texas Woman's softball team releases their gameday schedule ahead of the 2023 season.
Under the guidance of first year TWU head coach, Gay McNutt the Pioneers are looking to make some noise within the Lone Star Conference this season. While new to TWU, McNutt is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference and has experience guiding teams to success.
"I am excited about this team," said McNutt, "Our fall schedule will help us set the bar, and ending with Tarleton State will allow us to know what is needed moving into our spring season!"
The Pioneers are set to play in five home scrimmages this fall in preparation for their 2023 spring season. Beginning Oct. 19- Nov. 6, the Pioneers will scrimmage North Central Texas, Paris Junior, Trinity Valley, Tyler Junior, and division one contender Tarleton State.
TWU will commence its 2023 season at the UT Tyler Tournament in Conroe, Texas. The Pioneers will be playing several opponents over three days in Conroe. Those opponents are to be determined.
Following their season opening tournament, the Pioneers will be back at Dianne Baker Field, where they will take on Western Oregon on Feb. 10 in a doubleheader for their home opener.
This season TWU plays in 15 conference doubleheader's, in which eight of those games will take place at Dianne Baker Field. This year the Lone Star Conference has adopted a new format for softball games where teams will now be playing a three game series with one doubleheader and one stand alone game.
"The LSC is the best and toughest conference in DII softball," said McNutt, "I can't wait to see this team make its move!"
Lone Star Conference play will begin on the road for TWU as they take on St. Edwards Feb. 17-18. The Pioneers will be back home to play against conference opponents Texas A&M International Feb 21-22. The three game series will take place Tuesday, Feb. 21 and will end Feb. 22.
On Feb. 25-26, TWU is back on the road versus Lubbock Christian, with their series taking place on Feb. 25-26. The Pioneers are back home for back-to-back home games, taking on non-conference opponent Henderson State on Feb. 28 and LSC opponent Cameron March 3-4.
The Pioneers travel to San Angelo, Texas to play Angelo State on March 7, followed by their doubleheader on March 8.
TWU returns to home base for a three-game series against West Texas A&M March 11-12, with a double header on Saturday, March 11. After their home game, TWU will head to Odessa, Texas to face off against UT Permian Basin on March 17-18.
The Pioneers will play UT Tyler at home March 21-22. Following their home series, the Pioneers are on the road March 25-26 at Wichita Falls, Texas versus Midwestern State, featuring a double header Sunday, March 26.
On March 29 and April 6-7, TWU will be home at Dianne Baker Field against a non-conference opponent, Southeastern Oklahoma State (Mar. 29) and conference opponent Oklahoma Christian (Apr. 6-7).
The Pioneers will be on the road versus Eastern New Mexico in Portales, New Mexico on April 11-12. The Pioneers head back to Dianne Baker Field on Apr 15-16 in a three-game series featuring a Saturday doubleheader versus Texas A&M – Kingsville.
Closing out conference play on the road, TWU will go head-to-head with St. Mary's April 20-21. The Pioneers final home game will be played against Western New Mexico April 28-29 to close out the 2023 season.
