DENTON, Texas (September 27, 2022) – Texas Woman's (10-6, 1-3) is set to go head-to-head in a Lone Star Conference match-up. On Wednesday, the Pioneers will travel to Portales, New Mexico to face Eastern New Mexico. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. in the Greyhound Arena.
Â
The Pioneers opened conference play against St. Mary's (6-9,2-2) with a 3-2 victory on Sept. 16, 2022. Since then, TWU has recorded three loses in conference play, after falling to UT Permian Basin in four sets last Saturday. The Greyhounds are sitting at 0-4 in the conference.
Â
Last season the Greyhounds took the match in a sweep over the Pioneers on Nov. 13, 2021.
Â
TWU shutdown the Greyhounds offensively, recording 40 digs and seven blocks that night. Leading the front offensively was
Trixie Oche recording six kills and five blocks for the Pioneers.
Â
It's no secret that the Pioneers have been challenged in their out-of-system plays. Looking to decrease errors and improve their out-of-system offense, the Pioneers have relied on
Yanely Pabon, who ranks number four in the conference in digs.
Â
Under the leadership of
Lizzy Reed, averaging a total of 6.85 assists per set, fewer errors will provide the TWU offense with opportunities to score big at the net.
Kiana Reed has played in 54 sets this season and recorded a season high of 18 assists against St. Mary's.
