DALLAS, Texas (Nov. 15, 2023) – It's Lone Star Conference Tournament time for the Texas Woman's volleyball team.
For the first time since 2019, TWU (19-8, 11-5) will play in the LSC Championship Tournament – they go in as the seventh seed. In the opening round, the Pioneers will meet two seed West Texas A&M (25-3, 14-2).
In their last LSC tournament appearance, the Pioneers won the opening round with a sweep against the eighth seed Lubbock Christian. Then, they advanced to playing the one seed, Texas A&M Commerce, in the quarterfinal round, defeating the Lions on their home floor in five sets. The Pioneers would fall in the semifinal round to Tarleton State.
WT enters the tournament as the reigning LSC Tournament Champions and the Division II National Champions; nevertheless, they ended the regular season with a loss to Texas A&M International in five sets on Nov. 11.
The Pioneers were most recently ranked 10th in the South Central Region, and the Lady Buffs were ranked first.
TOURNEY TIME
- WHITE OUT – make sure to wear white and cheer on the Pioneers in their opening round match on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m.
- All LSC Tournament matches will be held on the campus of Dallas Baptist in the Burg Center. It is recommended for spectators to park in parking lots 5, 14 or 15 but parking is open anywhere. No parking tickets will be given this weekend.
- Tickets for the match can be purchased here. All TWU Students receive free admission to the match – must show their TWU ID at the gate to receive free admission.
- If you cannot make it to DBU, make sure to follow along via the livestream and live stats.
TIME TO DANCE
- LAST MATCH: In their loss to TAMIU, the Lady Buffs hit .286 on the match on 66 kills. They were topped by the Dustdevils in aces 10-6 and in assists 64-62. Torrey Miller led the Lady Buffs with 22 kills. Ainsley Malis led with 45 assists and Emma Patterson totaled 20 digs. WT dropped the first two sets to TAMIU, 25-22, 25-20, before winning the third and fourth to force a set five. In set five, the Dustdevils claimed the match with the 15-13 set win.
- LSC STATS: The Pioneers and Lady Buffs are closely matched in LSC stat categories. In points, TWU ranks fourth (17.26 per set), and WT ranks third (17.38 per set). The Pioneers rank second in hitting percentage, .248, and the Lady Buffs rank first .263. TWU tops WT in both kills and assists, as the Pioneers rank second in assists per set (13.10) and second in kills per set (13.88). WT ranks fifth in assists in per set (12.51) and third in kills per set (13.57).
- ACE, ACE: Serving will be a key in the match on Thursday. While the Lady Buffs were topped in service aces in their loss to TAMIU, the Pioneers currently average 1.83 service aces per set with 181 on the season, which ranks second in the LSC. On the other side, WT ranks 11th in aces, averaging 1.40 per set. The strength of TWU at the service line will be key.
