PIONEERS OPEN SEASON WITH #15 MONTANA STATE BILLINGS AT D2CCA TIPOFF CLASSIC

BILLINGS, Mont. (Nov. 3, 2023) – Basketball is finally back for the Pioneers. The Texas Woman's basketball team begins their 2023-24 season on the road today at the D2CCA Tipoff Classic hosted by Montana State Billings.
 
TWU will meet MSUB for just the second time in program history tonight at 8 p.m. to start the Classic. The two teams last met in 2013 at a neutral site in Las Vegas. The Yellowjackets defeated the Pioneers in that meeting 78-58.
 
The game tonight also marks the season opener and homer opener for MSUB.

TIP OFF TIME
  • A LOOK AT THE YELLOWJACKETS: Last season, MSUB went 25-8 overall and 14-4 in conference action. At home in Alterowitz Gymnasium, the Yellowjackets were 9-4 on the season. They lost in the GNAC Championship game to Western Washington, 76-71. Then, MSUB advanced to the NCAA West Region Tournament and defeated No. 5 California State, Los Angeles in the opening round, before falling in the second round to California State, Dominguez Hills. In the WBCA Preseason Poll, the Yellowjackets were ranked 15th, which marks the program's highest preseason ranking. MSUB returned eight players from last year's team.
  • A LOOK AT THE PIONEERS: Last season, the Pioneers recorded their most wins in program history and fewest losses, going 26-6 on the season and 19-3 in LSC action. The Pioneers won the LSC Regular Season Title and finished second in the LSC Championships. The Pioneers closed their season at the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament. On the road, the Pioneers were 9-3 on the season. TWU returns six players from last year's roster. TWU was ranked No. 24 in the WBCA Preseason Poll.
