DENTON, Texas (Nov. 9, 2023) – After starting their season 3-0, the Texas Woman's basketball team returns home to Kitty Magee Arena to play their home opener on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.
TWU (3-0) will welcome Western Colorado (0-0) to KMA on Friday night in the 2023 Conference Challenge – a two-day event which will feature TWU against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents Western Colorado and MSU Denver. Prior to the Pioneers' games, Angelo State will play the RMAC opponents as well.
The Pioneers opened their season last week at the D2CCA Tipoff Classic hosted by Montana State Billings. At the Tipoff Classic, the Pioneers went undefeated, recording wins over No. 15 MSUB, No. 2 Minnesota State Mankato and the University of Mary.
Western Colorado has not played a regular season game in 2023. Friday will be their 2023-24 season opener.

- HISTORY: All time against the Mountaineers, the Pioneers are 4-1. The Pioneers have won the last three meetings against WCU. They last met in Denton, Texas in 2021, and TWU recorded the win 58-42. Last year, the two teams played in Gunnison, Colo., and TWU won the game 57-55. For the returners, Scout Huffman led the Pioneers with 13 points.
- EFFICIENCY IS KEY: In their first three games, the Pioneers averaged 46.2% from the field and scored an average of 74 points per game. TWU was led in efficiency by Ashley Ingram, who shot 86.2% from the field in the first three games of the season. Ingram missed just four shots across 29 attempts to average 22.3 points per game in TWU's opening weekend. Efficient scoring will be key for the Pioneers this weekend.
- DEFENSIVE PRESSURE: The Pioneers currently force their opponents to commit 13.7 turnovers per game; on the other hand, TWU averages 15.7 turnovers per game. The Pioneers score 13.3 points per game off turnovers, while their opponents average 15.3 points per game off turnovers. TWU will look to protect the ball this weekend.
