Box Score LAWTON, Okla. (Dec. 2, 2023) – Behind a career high performance from
Scout Huffman, the Texas Woman's basketball team recorded their eighth win of the season on Saturday over Cameron, 69-51.
TWU (8-1, 2-0) opened up the first week of Lone Star Conference action undefeated, adding their second win of the week against CU (2-6, 0-2).
In the win, the Pioneers were led by Huffman with a career high 23 points on 10-12 shooting from the field. Huffman also added eight rebounds in the win.
Joining Huffman in double-digits was
Jada Celsur, who scored 16 points in 29 minutes of action, and
Ashley Ingram. Ingram scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to finish the game with her third straight double-double and fourth overall of the season.
Along with her third straight double-double, Ingram also dished out a career high eight assists, marking her third straight game with five or more assists.
The Pioneers outrebounded the Aggies 38-22 in the win. Contributing to those 38 rebounds was
Caroline Glud Rasmussen, who grabbed a season high five boards for TWU.
On 49 field goal attempts, the Pioneers shot a season high 57.1% from the field. They scored 38 points in the paint and 12 second-chance points.
Additionally, TWU committed a season-low five fouls as a team, as they allowed the Aggies to shoot just four free throws. The Pioneers locked down on defense, holding the Aggies to just 36.1% from the field and 21.7% from the three point line.
TWU opened the first half with an offensive onslaught. In the first quarter, the Pioneers scored 22 points, and they nearly matched that in the second quarter with 21 points. With a halftime lead of 16, TWU held CU to just eight points in the third quarter to maintain their double-digit lead.
In the first quarter, the Pioneers found their first double-digit lead of the game at 11, 22-11, with 39 seconds left in the quarter off a made basket by Celsur. Following the 11 point advantage, TWU would lead by double-digits for the remainder of the game.
The Pioneers found their largest lead of the game at 27, 68-41, with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter after a three by Huffman.
TWU remains one of five LSC teams still undefeated in LSC play. They will continue their conference slate this week in Kitty Magee Arena. The Pioneers will host Western New Mexico on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. and Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m.
