DENTON, Texas, (Feb. 20, 2023) – After an exciting start to Lone Star Conference play Texas Woman's softball (6-4) will host Texas A&M International Feb. 21 - 22 in a three-game series at Dianne Baker Field.
 
First pitch on Tuesday, Feb. 21 will go off at 1 p.m. followed by game two at 3 p.m. Game three will be played Wednesday, Feb. 22 at noon to conclude the series.
 
Over the weekend, the Pioneers led the series against St. Edwards 2-1. From the mound, the Pioneers were aggressive as Alyssa LeBlanc (3-2) recorded ten strikeouts in game one. With the support of her team the Pioneers were able to stop the Hilltoppers from scoring.
 
In game two, Jalee McDonald (1-0) recorded her first win of the season after pitching for four innings. Although, the Hilltoppers led the first inning scoring two runs over the Pioneers one run, TWU remained resilient and recorded two runs in the final two innings.
 
The Hilltoppers returned that Saturday, Feb. 18 with several adjustments to their defense and offense forcing the Pioneers into an early deficit that they couldn't get out of.
 
On Tuesday, Feb. 21 the Pioneers will face the Dustdevils (7-7), coming off a 3-0 sweep over Midwestern State.
 
The Dustdevils are known for breaking down their opponent's defense and recording runs often.
 
In their last meeting on April 22, 2022, the Pioneers split the two-game series, with game one ending 0-4 the Dustdevils and game two ending 10-3 the Pioneers.
 
It should be a high scoring game for the Pioneers. On average the Pioneers score 5.42 runs against the Dustdevils and have scored a total of 141 runs dating back to Feb. 5, 2009.
