SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 3, 2023) – After winter weather altered the Texas Woman's basketball schedule this week, the Pioneers are finally back in action on Saturday, Feb. 4 against St. Mary's.

TWU (19-1, 14-0) will meet the Rattlers on Saturday in San Antonio, TX at 1 p.m. It will be the first time the Pioneers have played since their home win against the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith on Jan. 28.

STMU (7-14, 3-12) played on Thursday, Feb. 2 against UT Tyler in San Antonio, defeating the Patriots 58-54. 

The Pioneers will meet the Rattlers for the second time this season. TWU previously defeated STMU on Thursday, Jan. 5 in KMA, 83-53.

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
  • SCORING THREATS: The Rattlers are led in scoring by No. 23 freshman Gabby Elliot, who averages 12.8 points per game. In their win over UT Tyler, STMU was led by Elliot with 17 points. No. 5 Natalia Ryng and No. 1 Jaedyn Dunn also scored in double digits with 12 points. Ryng also leads the Rattlers in three point percentage, shooting .438 per game. The Rattlers average 61 points per game, while the Pioneers average 71.4 points per game.
  • LAST TIME: The Pioneers recorded their largest margin of victory this season over the Rattlers on Jan. 5, winning by 30 points. TWU also set a program record of 35 points in a quarter with their third-quarter offensive explosion over the Rattlers. They held STMU to just 22.2% from the three point line and 53.8% from the free throw line. The Pioneers also played great defense, forcing the Rattlers into 25 turnovers, and TWU scored 30 points off those turnovers. Additionally, TWU scored 52 points in the paint, 20 more than the Rattlers. They will look to continue their scoring ways and defensive lockdown on Saturday.
  • A LOOK AT STATS: TWU currently ranks first in the LSC and 56th in the nation in offense, averaging 71.4 points per game. The Pioneers also rank first in the LSC and 33rd in the nation in margin of victory, 11.6. TWU sits at No. 1 in the LSC and No. 36 in the nation in field-goal percentage, shooting 43.6% per game as a team. Sadie Moyer currently ranks fourth in the LSC in scoring, as she averages 14.9 points per game. She also ranks seventh in the LSC in field goal percentage per game at 40.1 and third in free throw percentage at 85.3. Ashley Ingram also ranks in the top 10 in scoring in the LSC. She sits at No. 4 with an average of 15.4 points per game.
