DENTON, Texas (March 11, 2023) – Things were heating up at Dianne Baker Field as Texas Woman's (13-13, 9-3) softball opened the three-game series against #23 West Texas A&M (20-3, 11-3) Saturday, March 11.

The Buffs ran off with a two-game win under their belt after the Pioneers dropped game one 8-1 to open the series, followed by game two 7-1 to take the lead.

The Pioneers will return to Dianne Baker Field, Sunday, March 12 at 1 p.m. to cap off the series.

In game one, the Pioneers were led by
Alyssa LeBlanc (7-6) from the mound. After putting in four innings of work, LeBlanc allowed three hits and three runs on the night.
Jalee McDonald saw two and 1/3 innings of action for a total of three hits and five runs allowed.

Early in the first inning, the Buffs added two runs to the scoreboard. Looking to record the first RBI of the night,
Alexys Ginegaw stepped up to the plate and singled to the right field for
Lauren Trinh to bring it home.

Shortly after, the Pioneers were stalled offensively and ended game two with one run, six hits, and four errors.

In between games, the Pioneers demonstrated their reason for wearing pink and honored Amy Briggs, the mother of
Kelsie Briggs, for her continued strength in her fight against breast cancer. The Pioneers gifted Amy with a basket filled with necessities to aid her in her journey.

Game two kicked off early for the Buffs, recording two runs in the first inning to take and keep the lead.

Janyssa Ramos (1-3)Â opened the first inning and pitched two and 1/3 innings and record one strikeout on the night. Briggs closed for the Pioneers, with a total of four innings of work and 75 pitches later, she registered two strikeouts for the Pioneers.

It wasn't until the sixth inning, when Pioneer
Missy Wise homered to left field to record the second RBI of the night.

The Pioneers closed game two with one run, four hits, and one error. Defensively, the Pioneers recorded 21 putouts and 10 assists in both game one and game two.
