DENTON, Texas (March 22, 2023) – Home sweet home has a nice ring to it.
For the Texas Woman's gymnastics team, they will look to win a ring at home in Kitty Magee Arena on April 6-8, as the Pioneers host the 2023 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championships.
On Tuesday, March 21, the field was announced for the
championships. The seeding was determined using the teams' overall National Qualifying Score or NQS. The Pioneers posted a 195.055 NQS to claim the second seed in the championships.
With the second seed, TWU will compete in the second session of the semifinals on Thursday, April 6 at 7 p.m. The Pioneers will compete against Southeast Missouri State, Yale and West Chester for a chance to advance to the finals.
The starting rotation for the semifinal was determined by a blind draw. TWU will start on vault, SEMO starts on the uneven bars, Yale follows on the balance beam and West Chester begins on floor.
The teams with the top two overall scores will advance to the finals on Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m. in KMA. They will meet the winners of Session I on Thursday, which will feature top seed Lindenwood, Southern Connecticut State, Air Force and Brown.
TWU enters the competition as the reigning national champions, and they will look to defend their title on their home floor.
This season, the Pioneers rank 54th nationally – 49th on vault, 60th on bars, 53rd on beam and 52nd on floor.
TWU claims the highest vault NQS in the USAG with a 48.845. The Pioneers rank sixth on bars with a 48.400 and second on beam with a 48.865. Finally, on floor, TWU holds the second spot with a 48.965 NQS.
During the semifinal session on Thursday, TWU will also be competing to advance individually to Saturday's individual finals. The top five individual scores from each event in Session I and in Session II will advance to Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m.
