PIONEER SOFTBALL SETS THEIR SIGHTS ON ST. MARY'S AHEAD OF LSC BATTLE

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 19, 2023) – Texas Woman's (22-25, 14-22) softball is on the road this week ahead of a Lone Star Conference series matchup.
 
On Thursday, April 20, the Pioneers will go to battle against St. Mary's (29-20, 11-15) in a double header beginning at 1 p.m. To follow, the series finale will take place Friday, April 21 at 11 a.m.
 
Over the weekend, the Pioneers took the series fall, 2-1 against Texas A&M Kingsville. After solidifying the game one victory, the Pioneers came back in game two and were held to only one run, while the Javelinas scored seven runs, splitting the series.
 
In the series finale on Sunday, the Javelinas left the Pioneers scoreless and headed back to Kingsville, TX with a 3-0 win to take the series.
 
With the 2023 season ending soon, the Pioneers have set their sights on earning a spot in the LSC tournament. The Pioneers are No.11 in the conference, and only the top 10 teams will play in the conference tournament, anything is possible.
 
The Rattlers sit at No. 8 after sweeping Midwestern State over the weekend in Wichita Falls, TX.
 
From the circle, both the Pioneers and the Rattlers have impressive ERA's. The Pioneers with a 2.93 sitting at No. 7 in the conference, just below the Rattlers ERA of 2.60.
 
Junior pitcher Alyssa LeBlanc maintains her status as a force to be reckoned with. LeBlanc leads the Pioneers with an ERA of 1.69 putting her sixth in the conference.
 
Even after being intentionally walked by teams in the LSC and some non-conference opponents, LeBlanc continues to find opportunities to run bases and score big for the Pioneers. LeBlanc is No. 2 in hitting with a .413 average and an on-base percentage of .548.
 
In the field, the dynamic duo of Delaney Boley and Avery Boley cease to impress. This season Delaney Boley has made 354 catches and recorded 306 putouts, making her the third ranked fielder in the conference fielding at .997.
 
Avery Boley comes in at No. 5 in the conference for fielding with 244 catches and 238 putouts with a .996.
 
 In their last meeting with the Rattlers, the Pioneers dropped a pair of games at Dianne Baker Field on March 14, 2022. The Rattlers lead the all-time series 33-18.
