DENTON, Texas (April 26, 2023) – Texas Woman's (23-27, 15-24) softball will hit the final stop in their 2023 campaign as they set the stage to host the final three-game series of the season at Dianne Baker Field April 27-28.
Â
On Thursday, April 27 at 7 p.m. the Pioneers will kick off the three-game series against Western New Mexico (8-39,6-33). In honor of their three seniors
Kelsie Briggs,
Avery Boley, and student manager
Brooklyn Goines, the Pioneers will begin their senior celebration promptly at 6:40 p.m. The Pioneers will conclude the three-game series with a double-header on Friday, April 28 beginning at 11 a.m.
Â
The Pioneers have been off the road since their last matchup against St. Mary's in San Antonio, Texas, where the Rattlers took the series 2-1, April 20-21. Against the Rattlers, the Pioneers split the double-header on April 20, by starting off the series with a 6-4 victory in game one.
Â
Although TWU dropped games two and three, the Pioneers remain a viable threat in the Lone Star Conference as they vie for their place in the LSC tournament.
Â
Currently, at No. 11 the Pioneers must maintain control of their own game this weekend against the Mustangs. With a conference record of 15-24 the Pioneers are not only tied with Texas A&M International, but Eastern New Mexico is borderline for solidifying their spot into the tournament with a conference record of 16-23. Â
Â
This season the Pioneers are led by junior pitcher
Alyssa LeBlanc. As an all-around clutch player for the Pioneers, LeBlanc averages .420 batting in the LSC. From the circle, LeBlanc sits a No. 4 with an ERA of 1.58 and 221 strikeouts on the season.
Â
In last week's performance, LeBlanc walked off with a two RBI homerun, two runs, and two hits. Joining last week's performance is
Avery Boley with two RBI and five hits, including one double, followed by
Kennedy Marlow with two RBI, five hits, and two runs.
Â
In their last meeting, the Pioneers dominated the Mustangs in Silver City, New Mexico on March 4, 2022, in a double-header series ending 14-5 in game one, and then 6-3 in game two. The Pioneers lead the all-time series 12-5 since 2003.
