RICHARDSON, Texas (May 3, 2023) – Following the conclusion of the 2023 Texas Woman's softball season, the record-breaking year resulted in a conference honor for
Alyssa LeBlanc.
LeBlanc, the junior pitcher from Katy, Texas, was named first-team All-Lone Star Conference on Wednesday night for the third straight year.
"I could not be prouder of Alyssa," TWU Softball Head Coach
Gay McNutt said. "She is so deserving of this award. She has gotten better and better every year. I cannot wait to see what next year has in store for her, as well as our team."
As the ace for the Pioneers, LeBlanc built an impressive resume in the circle and at the plate throughout the 2023 season.
She pitched 184 innings, second most in the LSC, and recorded a season ERA of 1.71, which ranked fifth in the LSC and 49th in the nation. On the season, LeBlanc struck out 294 batters—the most in the LSC by almost 100 batters and third overall in Division II. She also ranked third in the LSC in opposing batting average, holding the Pioneers' opponents to hitting .171 when she is in the circle.
LeBlanc finished the season with 18 wins, third most in the LSC.
She also pitched two no-hitters on the season – March 17 against UT Permian Basin and April 12 against Eastern New Mexico.
Across the season, LeBlanc cemented herself in the TWU and conference record books. She set the TWU Single Season Record for most strikeouts with 294 and the TWU and LSC Single Game Record for strikeouts with 23, which she threw on March 7 against Angelo State.
At the plate, LeBlanc also posed a dangerous threat. Across 2023, she recorded 58 hits, 46 RBIs, 14 doubles and 18 home runs. She closed the season with a batting average of .392, which ranked fourth in the LSC.
She ranked second in the LSC in slugging percentage (.851) and on base percentage (.518). Additionally, her 18 home runs ranked third in the LSC and tied for tenth in the nation.
According to the LSC, "the awards are voted on by the league's head coaches, who determine a 25-player first team with 16 recognized by position and nine at-large selections, followed by 15 players on the second and third teams."
