DENTON, Texas (July 12, 2023)— By our mission statement, Texas Woman's University "cultivates engaged leaders" and is committed to transformational learning and service.

These missions also stand as cornerstones of TWU Athletics. Through sports, TWU Athletics daily lives out this mission of developing strong leaders who are committed to serving our campus and our community.

An engaged leader within TWU Athletics, Scout Huffman, a junior basketball student-athlete, was recently appointed to serve as a member of the Division II National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

"I'm so incredibly honored to be a member of National SAAC," Huffman said. "I now have the opportunity to be the voice for all student-athletes in the Lone Star Conference, and I will not take this honor lightly. As a member of National SAAC, I will work alongside members of 23 other conferences to improve the experience for all Division II student-athletes."

Huffman has served the past two years as a basketball representative for TWU SAAC, including serving as the Chair of the Social Media and Make-A-Wish Committees and has additionally represented TWU at conference SAAC events.

As a member of Division II SAAC, Huffman will serve as a liaison for the Lone Star Conference (LSC) and TWU. She will also be responsible for gathering feedback and relaying information about important events and educational opportunities from the national office to our campus and our conference.

Comprised of 28 members, representing the 23 Division II multisport voting conferences, three at-large representatives and two members of the Management Council, "Division II SAAC members serve as voting members on a number of Division II committees, including the Management Council and Presidents Council. The SAAC also has voting authority during the Division II Business Session at the annual NCAA Convention."

Huffman was selected by the Division II SAAC Nominating Committee and will serve a three-year term, as she can serve up to one year after exhausting her eligibility.

A junior this upcoming year for TWU Basketball, Huffman helped guide the Pioneers to back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances in 2022 and 2023. Most recently, Huffman and the Pioneers made history by claiming the LSC Regular Season Championship Title, recording the most wins, fewest losses, most consecutive wins and the best start in program history. Huffman was named to the 2023 LSC All-Tournament Team.

Majoring in Biology at TWU, Huffman also earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.

"We are so excited for Scout Huffman to represent TWU and the LSC on the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee," Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations and TWU SAAC Advisor Madison Seaver said. "During her time at Texas Woman's, Scout has been a consistent member of our institutional SAAC and has held two chair positions on our Make-A-Wish and Social Media committees. Scout will be an outstanding leader and voice on National SAAC, and we are so proud of her commitment to student-athlete well-being!"
