PIONEERS REMAIN UNBEATEN WITH TIE AT OUACHITA BAPTIST

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (Sept. 16, 2023) – The unbeaten streak continues for the Texas Woman's soccer team, as the Pioneers record a point against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon.

TWU (5-0-1) was unable to find the back of the net against OBU (3-0-3) on the road at Kluck Field, as the Pioneers closed nonconference play with a 0-0 tie.

"We controlled every aspect of today's game, but the most important one, which is the score line," TWU Soccer Head Coach Babak Abouzar said. "Our team possessed the ball very well and created some dangerous chances. This is a game where you wish you could have played overtime. I think if you talked to any one of our players they'd tell you that was a game where we should have gotten the result. With all that being said, I'm so proud of where our team is at this point in the season. Our backline along with Amanda has done a tremendous job limiting opponents opportunities. We have players consistently stepping up in every position on the field and playing at a high level. As a coach, you love to see it. Now comes the hard part, which is conference play in the LSC. It's something I know our team is ready for. Our players will enjoy their off day tomorrow and we'll get back to work Monday for our LSC opener against Midwestern."

In the tie, the Pioneers maintained a clean sheet for the fifth game in a row. Pioneers' goalkeeper Amanda Farris recorded three saves on the day, as she shutout an opponent for the fourth time this season. To date, Farris has only conceded one goal.

Farris still tops the Lone Star Conference leader board in goals against average (.171), shutouts per game (4) and saves (.947 percentage).

The Pioneers' starting backline of Erica Brelove, Hayley Masoner, Rylee Avery and Alyssa Valdez proved to be a brick wall once again, allowing the Tigers to take just five shots and only put three on frame, which Farris easily controlled.

While the Pioneers did not see a goal connect, they dominated the offense attack. In the first half, TWU hit nine shots, with five of those nine coming in the first 13 minutes of action.

Rylee Avery put the first shot on frame for the Pioneers in the 37th minute of the first half, but it was saved by OBU's goalkeeper Michele Snow. Zayda Henderson and Dylann Vollaro saw two more chances late in the first half but neither connected on a goal, as the Pioneers went into the half scoreless and knotted with the Tigers, 0-0.

In the 51st minute of the second half, Alyssa Striker recorded a shot on a goal, which was saved, but it ignited a stream of two more shots on frame for the Pioneers over the next five minutes. Bri Luna and Valdez placed two shots on goal, but both were saved by Tigers' keeper Snow.

Giselle Gutierrez would hit the final shot on frame for TWU in the 75th, but it was narrowly saved. TWU would record two more shots in the second half, as they looked for the game winning goal, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

Striker led all Pioneers with five total shots.

The Pioneers still hold the record for the most wins in the LSC with five. They close their nonconference record 5-0-1, and will open conference play against Midwestern State on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in Wichita Falls, Texas.
