DENTON, Texas (Jan. 24, 2023) - Texas Woman's softball team member, Alyssa LeBlanc, was named Lone Star Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year. This marks the first time in program history that the Pioneers received this mention during the preseason polls.
Only two Pioneers have won the LSC Pitcher of the Year award during post season awards in the past. LeBlanc looks to join the prestigious list.Â
Last year, the senior made it to the watch list of the 2023 Tucci and National Fastpich Coaches Association Division II Player and the Pitcher of the Year.Â
The Katy, Texas native, right-hander and utility player topped conference pitching stats with 294 strikeouts, including a conference single-game record 23 strikeouts vs. Angelo State.Â
LeBlanc also led hitters with an .851 slugging percentage.Â
In the 2023 season, the sports management major earned LSC First Team, D2CCA All-South Region First Team, and NFCA All-America and South Central Region First-Team awards.
Despite finishing 11th in the overall ranking with an overall record of 17-25, LeBlanc had a great season placing top ten in eight of the stats categories in the LSC.Â
LeBlanc finished first in the LSC slugging percentage (.851) and on base + slugging (1.369). The senior also finished second in on base percentage (.581), third in home runs (18), forth in batting average (.392) and walks (38) and tenth in runs batted in (46) and doubles (14).
The Pioneers were tabbed to finish tenth in the overall standing -one spot better from their last year finishing place.
TWU will open their season attending the 2024 DII FastPitch Invitational in Conroe, Texas on Feb. 2-4. They will be facing Colorado Mesa, Arkansas Tech, Cal Poly Humboldt, Pittsburg State and MSU Denver.Â
They will open their season at home with a double header against Lubbock Christian on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. at the Dianne Barker Field.Â
