TWU BEGINS 2024 ACTION AGAINST UAFS ON THURSDAY

DENTON, Texas (Jan. 3, 2024) – The Texas Woman's basketball team is ringing in the New Year with a Lone Star Conference basketball game in Kitty Magee Arena on Thursday, Jan. 4 against University of Arkansas – Fort Smith.

TWU (10-3, 4-1) will meet UAFS (4-7, 2-3) on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. for their sixth LSC game of the 2023-24 season.

Most recently, the Pioneers faced UT Tyler in KMA on Dec. 30 and fell to the Patriots, 61-55. TWU will look to bounce back with a win on Thursday afternoon. On the other side, UAFS has not played since Dec. 19, when they defeated Oklahoma Christian on the road by two points, 65-63.

TWU will look to secure their fifth win in LSC action on Thursday.

RING IN THE NEW YEAR
  • SHOT SELECTION: The Pioneers currently rank third in the LSC and 44th in NCAA Division II in team field goal percentage, as TWU averages 43.7% per game. The Pioneers shooting at a high percentage will be key in Thursday's game, as they fell below 40% in their loss to UT Tyler on Saturday. On the opposite side, UAFS currently shoots 38.2% from the field, which ranks 13th in the LSC. Holding the Lions to a low percentage from the field will be key in Thursday's game.
  • GET TO THE LINE: On average, UAFS allows their opponents to shoot 15.6 free throws per game. TWU averages 16 free throws per game and only gives up 10.5 free throws per game. Shooting a high percentage from the free throw line will help lead the Pioneers to a win on Thursday.
  • CRASH THE GLASS: The Pioneers grab 38.5 rebounds per game, which is 5.1 more than their opponents on average. On the other side, UAFS averages 35.8 rebounds per game, which is 4.7 less than their opponent. TWU will look to win the rebound battle on Thursday.
