EDMOND, Okla. (Oct. 24, 2024) – The Texas Woman's volleyball team goes on the road this week for two Lone Star Conference matches.
TWU (13-5, 6-2) is currently on a six-match win streak. Over those six matches, the Pioneers have only dropped three sets to their opponents.
This week, TWU will face Oklahoma Christian (14-7, 4-4) on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. Then, they will travel to Lawton, Okla. to face Cameron (1-19, 1-7) on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m.
Most recently, OC met Texas A&M – Kingsville on Oct. 18 and Texas A&M International on Oct. 19. The Eagles defeated both the Javelinas and Dustdevils in five sets of action.
OC played a non-conference match this week on Tuesday against East Central and defeated the Tigers in three sets.
Cameron also faced TAMUK and TAMIU in LSC play last week. The Aggies fell to both opponents in three sets. On Monday, Cameron played Southern Nazarene in a non-conference match, falling in three sets.
ROAD TRIP
WINNING WEEKEND
- A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: OC currently averages 12.5 kills per set from 11.7 assists per set. The Eagles currently hit .213 on the season, which ranks 11th in the LSC. The Eagles are strong on defense, averaging 2.13 blocks per set, which ranks fourth in the LSC. They also rank in the top 10 in the LSC in digs, 16.08 per set, and service aces, 1.45 per set – in both categories, OC sits in seventh. OC allows their opponents to hit .197 on average and record 12.67 kills. The Eagles have faced seven of the same opponents as TWU. Out of the seven, the Eagles had the same winning result as TWU, except for two. In two meetings, the Eagles lost to St. Mary's, both were sweeps. The Pioneers faced St. Mary's last week and won in four sets. Additionally, the Eagles fell to UT Tyler in three sets. The Pioneers split their two meetings with UT Tyler this season.
- A LOOK AT THE AGGIES: Cameron averages 9.6 kills per set and is hitting .095 on the season, which ranks 17th in the LSC. The Aggies average 2.6 reception errors per set, and 1.1 blocks per set. Cameron's LSC win came over Eastern New Mexico at home in four sets. On average, the Aggies allow their opponents to hit .262. Additionally, opponents against the Aggies average 2.10 blocks per set and 2.57 service aces.
- TWU IN THE RANKINGS: On the LSC leader board, Grace Reynolds ranks in the top 10 in assists, 6.44 per set, and in service aces, 0.39 per set. She currently holds 10th in assists and seventh in aces. Luna França moved up to fifth in the LSC in digs per set, averaging 4.64. As a team, the Pioneers rank fifth in points per set (16.96), sixth in hitting percentage (.235), fourth in assists (12.72 per set), second in kills, (13.89 per set), eighth in blocks (1.82 per set), and first in the LSC in digs (17.75 per set).
